My children and I are still fascinated by the show Mythbusters. If you are not familiar with the show, the premise is as follows: Jamie and Adam are special effects professionals who use basic elements of the scientific method to test the validity of various rumors, urban legends, myths and news stories in popular culture. Not only is the show educational, but very entertaining.
Well, mythbusters did a special on the television show MacGyver. The basis was to see if the tricks that MacGyver used on his show can be confirmed, plausible or busted.

The first myth they testes was of MacGyver using a bit of sodium mixed with water to blow up a brick wall.

There is a great tradition in my family (like many other families) of lying on the couch after the Thanksgiving or Christmas meal. There is so much prep that goes into these meals that would tire anyone out, but add eating all that food to the list and the couch is the most obvious place of digestion! I remember as a child going to my Grandparents for the feast. You see everyone working hard to get all the meal together which covers a whole table. The announcement to everyone to grab a plate – grace said – the food ingested. After all was said and done, every chair and couch was occupied and the kids on the floor groaning. It is in this state that all of a sudden football on the TV was interesting. Rest. All cultures do it. Whether it is after a meal, after a religious ceremony or a holiday – rest is an activity(!) that every culture can understand. Rest is the setting that we read our Jesus story today. Let’s turn there, shall we. John 7:37-8:11.

Winter

Winter

Our family has two dogs. Winter is the older of the two. She lived on the street before we adopted from the humane society. She tends to be protective of her food –not in an aggressive way, but she picks up her food and eats it where she can be left alone. She is territorial when it come to other dogs. If another dog calls her on, she quickly lets the dog know that this her spot. Even when it comes to treats she makes sure she gets her share. And oddly enough she sleeps on the ground.
